hmmm.....so odd that anyone would think this a good movie. it is a raimi thats for sure and all i could think was how much it was just another evil dead. they should have just called it that and made more money. do not group this with movies like let the right one in...im not even gonna justify that with a why. it was predictable, boring, and awful at many points. whats with the dancing....first parker now some jackoff who is possessed. whats different about this than say a saw movie.....in saw they are attempting to gross you out with blood and torture and make you turn your head.....this film does the same with bodily fluids and boring *boo!* moments.

I have to give you credit. I had no interest in seeing this movie because the horror genre has been so disappointing I had given up completely. Even the great Raimi couldn't get my attention. I can't sit through another two hours of, as you say, 'buckets of blood and tits'. Reading this has brought me round and if what you say is true, and this movie really is what I have been searching for, I will campaign tirelessly to give a breath of fresh air its due.

You can be annoyed all you want but the fact is, the demographic for these sports games are not little kids. The majority of people who watch them are men in their late teens to early 30s. Now it may not be the best thing for families but it's the demographic this film is geared towards and having it play during something like the NBA playoffs is great advertising for the film and great money for the NBA. So again, it may not be great for families but it doesn't lack common sense either.

Good article. Saw the film, liked it tremendously. Also saw Evil Dead 2 in its entirity for the first time last month, and enjoyed that as well. And another good horror from recent years: "The Descent" (although I didn't like "The Host" as much as others here did).

I think it should be noted that there is a difference between horror genres... the horror that makes you squirm, vs horror that makes you laugh, vs horror that's meant to frighten you. I have to wonder why it is that torture porn has done so well, but truly frightening (to me, anyway) films tend to be underplayed.

For those who saw and did not like DMtH, they should do us a favor and state a title of a horror film they thought was worth their $10.50.

I saw the movie opening week and, although I enjoyed it tremendously (agree with the article on all counts), there was something the character did (I won't spell it out for those who haven't yet seen it) which pretty much changed how I'd felt about the main character up to that point. After that, I was pretty much grumbling "yeah, go ahead and drag her to hell" but I believe that was Raimi's intention. To keep the audience from identifying too closely with the main character as she did do several things in the movie which did not make her the sweet innocent. Anybody remember Raimi's "The Gift" with Cate Blanchett from I think 2002 or so?

My point about ratings is that they are something I've grown to ignore (as well as critics' reviews). Most of the movies I like usually get between a 5 and 7 out of 10 on imdb and between 50 and 70 on RT. I agree that horror series do get stale rather fast. I was just saying that DMtH wasn't as good as people were making it out to be and that there is better stuff that's gotten lower ratings. But in the end, it's an individual choice of what you like or don't like :)
