Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) will be joining Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman for The Adventurer’s Handbook for director Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod). The actor is attached to the film, based on the book by Mick Conefrey with the script from Hill and his writing partners Max Winkler and Matthew Spicer. The trio sold the script back in February to Universal, after it was sent over to Hollywood’s top studio heads on red, watermarked paper. The project centers on four 20-something guys, who inspired by a book of the same name, set out overseas in search of a mysterious location described in the book. R-rated in tone, the film is still in development and doesn’t yet have a greenlight or a start date.

Sam Worthington will star with Charlize Theron in “The Tourist,” the Spyglass remake of the 2005 French thriller “Anthony Zimmer” that will be directed by Bharat Nalluri.

Theron has been attached since last year to play a female Interpol agent who uses an American tourist in an attempt to flush out an elusive criminal who was her former lover. The Australian actor will play the American tourist.

Worthington came into the loop after Tom Cruise dropped out. “The Tourist” was one of the projects he seriously considered before selecting the untitled James Mangold-directed action comedy that was once titled “Wichita,” which Cruise will star in alongside Cameron Diaz.

Jackman will play the showman with a penchant for hoaxing a gullible public as he creates the three-ring circus that made him famous. The musical also focuses on his infatuation with singer Jenny Lind — the so-called Swedish Nightingale.

Pic will have a contemporary musical score, and the studio is in talks with British singer-songwriter Mika to write music and lyrics.

The company will soon offer the Watch Instantly video-streaming feature on Apple iPhones and iPod Touch devices and the Nintendo Wii gaming console, according to an industry executive familiar with Netflix’s plans. (Netflix wouldn’t confirm the info, with a rep saying it declines to comment on “rumors or speculation.”)Netflix’s streaming-video feature would probably be restricted to access over local Wi-Fi connections only — not over AT&T’s 3G data network — in the same the way other bandwidth-heavy video apps for the iPhone are limited.

Gugino joins Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Abbie Cornish star in the 1950s-set tale of a girl (Browning) confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. She and her friends enter an alternate reality where they begin planning an escape.

When asked about the rumor that the Hulk will appear in The Avengers, Norton was coy. “I probably won’t comment on that, just because they [Marvel] keep a pretty tight reign on what they are letting out. I’ll let them say,” he replied.

The Avengers isn’t the only upcoming Marvel movie that Norton/Hulk is rumored to be appearing in. According to Nuke the Fridge, Norton “will have a possible cameo [in Iron Man 2] as both Bruce Banner and the Hulk.

Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It’s pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can’t remember anything: Who are they? What is their mission? ‘Pandorum’ hits theaters September 18th.

Netflix and Disney-ABC Television Group unveiled a deal Monday that will make several of ABC’s TV shows available for viewing via online streaming.

Hit series that are part of the agreement include the first five seasons of “Lost,” and select seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Legend of the Seeker.”

Some of the content, including the first four seasons of “Lost,” had already been made available at the beginning of the month. Additional content will be available in subsequent months beginning in September.

“I’ve sketched out two ideas for the next installment,” he told us during the exclusive interview. “Vin and I have decided on one approach of those two, and there’s some interest at the studio level but it would be as a PG-13 film, and we don’t want to do that anymore. That’s one of the concessions we thought we made with ‘Riddick’ that we shouldn’t have made. We also spent too much money and we were too ambitions, so yes, if we do go back to a third one, it will be focused again, hopefully again the same way that ‘Pitch Black’ was, and we’ll spend less money doing it. We’re just trying to figure out how much less we can do it for, because I don’t think Vin is going to work for scale again.”

“The third movie would be more modestly-scaled and it would probably feel more like ‘Pitch Black’ then ‘Chronicles’,” he continued. “It will always be Riddick-centric. If the question is whether it will be more like the first one than the second one…

Actor Kwon Sang-woo may soon be making his Hollywood debut with a role in the upcoming film “The Green Hornet,” Nate News reported last Friday.

Kwon is said to be up for the role of Kato, the Green Hornet’s sidekick ― a role which was originally meant for Chinese star Stephen Chow. Chow was also supposed to direct the film based on the 1930s radio program-turned-comic book, but stepped down in December 2008 due to creative differences and pulled out of the role last July.

I’m also fighting to do the new Mad Max film with George Miller. That might be next summer. I’m screen-testing and meeting George Miller.

Michael Moore, by far the most successful documentary filmmaker of all time, is thinking of getting out of the business of making documentaries. “I have been working on two screenplays over the last couple of years,” he says. “One’s a comedy, one’s a mystery, and I really want to do this.”

The filmmaker will direct as his next film a contemporary adaptation of Mary Chase’s play “Harvey,” about a man and his friendship with an invisible six-foot tall rabbit. 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks will coproduce the project.

“Harvey” was first adapted for the screen in 1950 with James Stewart in the starring role as Elwood P. Dowd.

“Funny People,” which faced a dual marketing challenge as a departure from typical Adam Sandler comedies and from writer-director Judd Apatow’s raunchier laffers, launched respectably at the top of a moderate weekend box office with $23.4 million at 3,008 playdates.

That figure, however, marked the lowest tally for a No. 1 film this summer. The Universal dramedy came in with 23% less box office than the July 10-12 launch of U’s “Bruno.” And the pic finished the frame 23% behind Apatow’s 2007 helming effort “Knocked Up,” which opened to $30.7 million.

Following the news that former Whedonverse member Alexis Denisof will appear in Dollhouse season 2 (and that Summer Glau could likely show up as well), we’ve also learned that members of the Battlestar Galactica cast will be appearing in the new season. Jamie Bamber, who played Lee Adama in BSG, will be showing up as a character “heavily involved” in an engagement according to E! Online. And just a few minutes ago, we learned from Mo Ryan’s Twitter account that Michael Hogan will be appearing in the second episode of the season.

On the eve of the release of his latest movie, “Funny People,” Judd Apatow has signed with Universal to write and direct three films.

The deal, which came together over the past two months, shows the studio’s considerable faith in the filmmaker.

Universal gave Apatow considerable leeway in making “Funny People,” his most personal and serious film, including final cut on the nearly 2 1/2-hour, $75 million movie starring — Adam Sandler and Jonah Hill.

Jeremy Renner, who has earned raves for his performance in “The Hurt Locker,” is in negotiations to join “The Town,” a romantic crime thriller from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures that Ben Affleck is directing. Renner joins Affleck, Jon Hamm and Rebecca Hall in the adaptation of Chuck Hogan’s novel “Prince of Thieves.” The story follows a bank manager (Hall), the career criminal (Affleck) who stole more than her heart and the dedicated FBI agent (Hamm) trying to bust the crook and his gang.

Renner plays Affleck’s doomed best friend, a member of the gang.

Russell Crowe will star in “The Next Three Days,” the adaptation of the 2008 French film “Pour Elle” that reunites Lionsgate with its “Crash” director Paul Haggis.

Crowe will play a teacher whose wife is arrested and convicted of a murder she says she did not commit. He comes up with a desperate plan to free her.

Haggis, who wrote the script, will begin production in late September in Pittsburgh.

David Self will adapt the Ludlum novel about a CIA operative who thinks he witnessed the execution of his lover after she was identified as a KGB double agent.

  • Does Michael Myers speak for the first time in ‘Halloween 2′
  • While on the set of Halloween 2 earlier this year, an acquaintance and I witnessed a night scene in which a helicopter hovered above Michael Myers. We witnessed this scene again and again and again. On the first few takes, we laughed at the bizarre noise (and at the sheer giddy thrill of hangin’ in Haddonfield) being yelled by the towering actor Tyler Mane as Myers in said scene—I won’t reveal further details at this time. However, after about the fifth take, and against the whirring of a ‘copter and an excruciating windchill, it seemed like Michael Myers was in fact emitting a single, fully-constructed word.
